Comunità Cenacolo – a new haven of hope in the Philippines

The Giorgio Deiana Foundation is pleased to continue its support for the Comunità Cenacolo projects in 2025.

The Cenacolo Community is an organization committed to offering support to young people and families in difficulty, helping them rebuild their lives through work, communal living, and mutual support.
After supporting the construction of the village “A Family for Grandparents” alongside the fraternity of Cherasco (Cuneo, Piedmont, Italy), which is still ongoing, the collaboration continues with a donation in support of the community’s work in the Philippines.
Since the year 2000, the Community has expanded its mission to numerous countries, seeking to address the needs of those living in vulnerable and disadvantaged situations. The Philippines became one of the key locations where the Community decided to settle after receiving requests for help from families, young people, and even local priests.

In 2017, a group of missionaries visited several Asian countries, including the

Philippines, where the needs were particularly urgent. After meeting Archbishop Socrates Villegas, who offered land to start an outreach project, the Promised Land Fraternity was founded in 2019. The goal was to create a safe haven and provide support for those living in poverty and hardship.
The first bamboo house, while being a crucial point of reference, quickly showed its limitations, especially due to the frequent typhoons and tropical storms that strike the region. The need for a more solid and secure structure became clear, both to offer a protected environment for the young people welcomed there and to face the climatic challenges.

Starting in 2022, the growing number of young people, particularly due to the war in Myanmar, made the need for a new home urgent. The Community then decided to build a brick structure designed to withstand extreme weather events. The new building will have a high, ventilated roof to cope with the scorching heat and heavy rains, and it will be designed to provide better protection against typhoons and tropical storms.
In June 2024, work began on the new house, which will be able to accommodate more people and provide a safe haven for those in need of protection. This new structure is not only a practical necessity, but also a tangible sign of how solidarity and concrete commitment can make a difference in the lives of those facing great hardship. Promised Land will continue to be a place of hope for all those seeking an opportunity for renewal, where work, hospitality, and mutual support can truly transform lives.
